Concrete structures with specially shaped columns have been widely used in residential constructions for their superior architectural function, and steel reinforced concrete columns are recognized as an efficient hybrid concept for structural members. Recent research projects have led to a good understanding of the structural behavior of both the above systems. However, the study of SRC special-shaped columns has so far been addressed only in a preliminary way.Model experimental researches focused on the shear behavior of T-section steel reinforced concrete columns have thus been conducted in this thesis. These columns were tested under static loading conditions. Characteristics of the mechanic behaviors of T-section steel reinforced concrete columns have been achieved from tests, such as strain response of concrete and shaped steel, strain distribution of the column section, shear load-deformation response and crack distribution etc.Based on the experimental response, parametric studies that evaluate the influence of axial load, shear span ration, form of steel and flange of the T section were performed. To develop a better understanding of shear behavior of SRC T-section columns, A model based on Truss-arch was developed to discuss the concrete, shaped steel and axial load contributions to shear capacity.
