Fully wrapped composite cylinders are widely used in many fields because they have characteristics of light weight, high-level structure efficiency, airproof property, high reliability, longevity and good safety. So the research about the methods of structural analysis and design about these cylinders will be of great theoretical significance and value for engineering application.In this paper, the structural analysis of fully wrapped composite cylinders with aluminum liner are carried out by using the method of FEA and software ANSYS. The element selection, gridding density, the real constant and the boundary condition of the FEM model are also discussed. And the parametrical FEA APDL programs about the modeling, loading, calculating and post processing of these composite cylinders are written.The results of the stress and displacement distributions under autofrettage, working and burst pressures are obtained by researching a typical composite cylinder with 6.8L capacity. The rationality of the structural design is then analyzed in accordance with some related standards.The effectiveness and influences of the autofrettage pressure on the load carrying capacity of composite cylinder are also demonstrated in this paper. It is shown that that the autofrettage operation can reduce the stress level and can change the load distribution between the liner and the fiber layers under working pressure. As a result, the characteristic of high strength of the composite layers can be fully exhibited and the properties of the load carrying capacity and fatigue life of the cylinder can be increased to the greatest possible extent.The parameterized characteristics of the finite element modeling for fully wrapped composite cylinder are then analyzed and a special software for the design and analysis of serial fully wrapped composite cylinders that based on VC++ and FEA software ANSYS are written in this paper. Using the encapsulation technology, the software of these composite cylinders could be created directly by inputting parameters in designed GUI other than ANSYS GUI. So the functions of modeling, computing and the pick-up necessary results can be obtained feasibly and accurately. The parameterized FEA software and methods that are developed in this paper could make the FEA numeric analysis about fully wrapped composite cylinder easily and exactly. At the same time, a non-professional operator who does not need to study the complex and difficult software ANSYS is able to analyze the structure of composite cylinder by using these programs. Then, the research in this paper will be of great value to engineering application.
