Vehicle Crash Safety Test is a very important method for evaluating the safety study, obtaining the data for theoretical researches and appraising the safety performance for a new car models. It consists of three main parts: vehicle crash test, sled crash test and bench test. As a significant method for auto passive safety research, sled crash test is mainly used for appraising the performance of the occupant restraint system owing to its similar impact characteristics with vehicle crash test. The crash energy absorber apparatus that used in the sled crash test is to simulate the deformation of vehicle's front part in a collision and acquire the acceleration curve which is specified by the regulation or a certain vehicle's acceleration required in particular.In this paper the study and analysis for the development of crash energy absorber devices and their characteristics were carried out firstly. And in terms of these studies, a new kind of crash energy absorber method which was based on the principle of longitudinal crash and vertical energy absorbing had been proposed. Then researches and analysis about this method was made. The simulation analysis showed that this energy absorber apparatus which was designed according to this method could satisfy the requirement of the test of automobile safety equipments. And its good performance was validated by sled crash test. The research of this paper includes three mainly following parts:1. The structure and operating principle of this new crash energy absorber method was proposed.2. The new crash energy absorber apparatus's computational model was established by finite element methods, and then simulation work had been done to verify its performance. The simulation results showed that many typical kinds of crash acceleration curves can be reconstructed by adjusting the height, variety and number of dampers on the device. It can be used in sled crash test to satisfy the requirement of the test of automobile safety equipments.3. This paper also carried on a set of tests and compared the simulation results with these tests. The research showed that the test results were consistent with the simulation very well. Thereby, the validity of simulation models and the correctness of simulation results were proved, and the validity of this new crash energy absorber apparatus proposed in this paper was testified as well.
