| With the development tendency of people hope to have more various and more individual styling automobiles, it means that meeting this requirement will be one of the key factor in automobiles market competitions. Therefore the form style, as the representation of both subjective spirits and aesthetic image, has been considered as an important step in automobile design process by designers. How to grasp exactly the market fashion style and leading image of public have been a greatly heated issue among the automobile designers.Combining perceptual method for phenomena analysis and rational method for demonstration, the paper aimed at the connotation of automobile styling and image, especially the sports image. Firstly, the basic definition of the style and image was illustrated, and the rule of inheriting and innovation between several styles were provided from the point of view of form feature. The cognitive process of automobile form style was illustrated also based on the theory of vision perception and both the factors of being fashionable and form feature of the sports image were generalized subsequently. Secondly, through the investigation about the sport image, adopting the way of interview and questionnaire and methods of semantic differential and correlation analysis, much data about cognitive process were captured; then the knowledge about the automobile styling and sport image were extracted in the domain of automobile design. Lastly, based on the correlation analysis between the sport image and form image, the aesthetic feature and cognitive rules about sport image were summarized.The paper presents a creative method for automobile styling design which combining the perceptual method and rational method. The conclusion of the paper can help construct the knowledge base as assistant about automobile styling, and also provide material for the style module of Case Based Automobile Styling-CABS system which can aid automobile designers styling design. |
