It analyzes the content and the process of image cognition of car styling , and then discusses the content and the grammar of modeling language . It analyzes the connection between image cognition and modeling language, the way of expressing design concepts and creative thoughts through modeling language in Linguistics perspective. It sums up 19 adjectives which can be used to express the meaning of 3 dimensions—model, brand and style of car styling.Through the analysis of models, brands and styles of three image dimensions, depth interviews, questionnaire survey and focus groups experimental analysis and verification, the researcher gets cognitive outcomes of the 12 sample models of the measured object model, brand, style, three image dimensions, then makes plenty of studies on the different manifestations of the 12 models in the interval of each adjective imagery, summed up intervals in line with models of the adjective image dimensions; in the focus group discussions, the researcher focuses on different image dimensions adjectives and the expression of the form and manner of the modeling language in the automotive styling, researches how to use different modeling languages to reflect the different images.Combining with the Principles of Design Formation, Principles of Shape-beauty and Design Psychology ,it studies on the effects attached to explicit properties, like proportions and sizes of automobiles, and implicit properties , like brand significance and car-body temperament ,of image cognition .In the end , it comes to the conclusion of the significances of design guidance and to verify these conclusions which can be applied to the actual design case. They will provide an important reference information and recommendations for guidance in the actual modeling work for the designer. They also will have a high theoretical significance and value in practice.
