With the development of space remote sensing technology, the volume of space remote sensing data increases rapidly. So,the huge increasing in the volume of image data brings the storage and transmission problems. On one hand, the limited memory storage space on the satellite are inadequate to meet the huge demand for storage, on the other hand, caused by the limited channel capacity ,we encounter transmission difficult. Therefore, the real-time and high compression ratio of the image data become the key to solve the above problems.Meanwhile, satellite remote sensing image has its own notable feature-rich details. we all konw that, the satellite is usually about several hundred meters above the height of the flight with large ground coverage,so, small targets on the ground usually becomes a few pixel size after the process of satellite imaging. Richly detailed, high resolution, making remote sensing image processing have higher standard than the image data processing on the ground ,and because of the difference in working environment, it's more technically difficult to finish the processing image data (including compression and transmission) in the space. From this view,we should choose or re-design the image compression algorithm,the way of hardware implementaion and transfer protocol according to their own characteristics.Based on the above analysis, the major research and development work to complete the following :(1) I compare and simulate different Image data compression algorithms Based on the analysis of satellite remote sensing images and the special requirements for the satellite remote sensing image processing. And I especially do the comparison and simulation for the JPEG and JPEG2000 algorithm.(2) And more,I give one hardware implementation structure Based on the FPGA technology and the general modern data processing with hardware way,and this structure is for the high-speed satellite image data stream processing.Through the simulation,we can find that for high-resolution satellite remote-sensing images, JPEG2000 compression algorithm has better performance on the efficiency, quality than the JPEG algorithm. With the development of electronic technology, there has being some asic chip for the JPEG2000 efficient realization,and We can use them conveniently.Meanwhile,the rapid progress in FPGA technology makes FPGA chip more and more used in high-speed processing and aerospace.This paper describes in detail the JPEG and JPEG2000 algorithm simulation,and based on the comparison ,I come up one program using the FPGA chip and JPEG2000 algorithm ASIC chip to achieve high-speed satellite images data processing. At the end,I Explaine the practical results and give annotations, thus confirming the correctness of the program.
