More and more cables are applied in 110kV and under 110kV systems along with the urban power grid reconstruction. Due to the increasing number of cable and the long running time, the cable fault caused by insulation aging or man-made factor have become more and more frequent. As a result, an accurate cable fault location method is demanded and especially important. Domestic power companies and academician make great efforts to find a fast, accurate cable fault location method, so does the international scientific and technological research center.There are so many cable fault location methods, including offline and online way. Nowadays the offline cable fault location technique is mature, but it is very complicated. By far, the online cable fault location method is not idea .A cable fault location method is proposed based on the cable distributed parameter physics model. Because of the distributed capacitance, the cable physics model is represented by distributed parameter. Based on the study of various existing cable fault location method, a cable fault location method based on the cable physics model deduced by distributed cable parameter is given in the thesis.Because of the influence of distributed capacitance, the cable is characterized by distributed parameter. Cable mathematical model is deduced in the thesis.As the complexity of the distributed parameter cable model, it's difficult to identify the cable parameters. A method which uses ANN model to identify the cable parameter is proposed, due to the capability of ANN approach to complex object. The cable model is applied in the cable fault location.The ANN model of the cable is built by the MATLAB software. A 10kV cable system is built by ATP to create the ANN model training samples and simulation samples. The training and simulation of the ANN mode is carried out by using the samples from ATP. Results of the simulation show that the cable fault location method based on the ANN model parameter identification is adaptable.Two-phase and three-phase cable grounding fault is simulated by ATP. Fault location simulation based on the distributed parameter cable model is completed; the results show that the cable fault location method proposed in the thesis is feasible and can obtain the fault location.
