The Chongqing Grand Theatre is a large building with multi-functions such as opera,drama,concert and art shows. It is one of the most important public buildings of Chongqing City.The Chongqing Grand Theatre takes the slender column with rectangular section (dimensions:400mm x 1000mm) at the first and second floor with the storey height of 8 meters. The load eccentricity is very small while the accidental eccentricity influences the bearing capacity a lot, since the slenderness ratio of the column is fairly large. Restrain of the foundation will also affect the bearing capacity. This paper analyzed the nonlinear behavior of columns by fiber beam-column element based on flexibility method of finite element, tried to find the relation between Reinforced concrete slender frame column's bearing capacity and its influential factors, offer some useful suggestions for practical engineering. In this purpose, this paper contains :â‘ This paper elaborates on the existing situation both at home and aboard of the performance of the Reinforced concrete slender columns. Based on the large slender member's special loading behavior and the demand of the designer, considering the position of the slender column in the frame structure, the research target of the paper is determinedâ‘¡The loading experiments are conducted through using beam column fiber model finite element program based on the flexibility. It is proved that this program can simulate the effects of the changing axis force on the reinforced concrete column performance.â‘¢Plane frame model is constructed based on the fiber model beam column element non-linear analysis program and SAP2000 software. Elastic behavior comparison between the two programs was conducted. This paper also highlighted the influential regulations of the changes of span numbers and load distribution to the slender column's inner force, obtained the reasonable simplified model and the load values and made good preparation for the nonlinear analysis.â‘£With nonlinear analysis using the beam column fiber model finite element program based on the flexibility, this paper researched the influential factors to the bearing capacity of the slender column. And some suggestion for the reinforcement of the slender frame column section of the Chongqing Grand Theatre was made. The analysis shows that accidental eccentricity influence the bearing capacity of the column a lot. And the restrain of foundation influence the bearing capacity to some extend. The bearing capacity calculated in this paper is smaller than that of the Code, and more steel bar is suggested.
