In order to prevent and cure the water pollution on Huaihe River basin, based on the subject of "Research on the Water Quantity and Quality Operation Model of Huaihe River Floodgate Dam Administration"(part of "Evaluation of Huaihe River Floodgate Dam Administration and Countermeasure Research on Optimizing Operation") written by Huaihe River Conservancy Committee, An unsteady flow model mixed with 1-D and 2-D is established by studying the middle reaches of the Huaihe River basin, which can be adapted to complicated conditions. The sewage operation of the middle Huaihe River net region is imitated to predict the transferring and transforming rules of the sewage in main river and branch rivers, evaluate the environment effect of the operation program, and study how adjusting the operation mode of water gate can improve the water environment of Huaihe River, so as to show the ability of the hydraulic engineering works to solve the abrupt water pollution.The established model is used to imitate the space-time distribution of the polluted water body moving toward the lower reaches and compare influences of different water gate operation modes to pollution movement. A set of reasonable qualitative and quantitative results are attained by analyzing the effects of water gate operation to change of water quality. All the above display the predictable function and applicable foreground of the model. On the base of the developed model, "the Water Quantity and Quality Operation System of Huaihe River Gate Dam Administration" is further exploited. With friendly interface, brief operation and steady circulation, the system can be used to design projects conveniently and display results in different operation projects directly, so as to provide technique support for water pollution joint defence task of Huaihe River basin.
