With the popularization of the vehicles in the world, the traffic accident and thedeath people from the accident are increasing gradually year by year. In order tobetter protect the safety of the drivers and passengers, Airbag system has beendeveloped and implemented rapidly in the world. The airbag system has beenproved effectively and successfully to save the health of drivers and passengers. Arecently survey done by US analyst shows that the airbag system reduced thedeath rate by 30% on big-size vehicle, 11% on the middle-size sedan and 14% onthe small cars, respectively. As the key element of airbag restrain system, theSensing and diagnostic module has been getting more and more attentions fromtop automotive electronics supplier.In this thesis, the sensing and diagnostic module is being designed for newvehicle application. This thesis will cover the product's functionality, softwarealgorithm flow and relative communication protocol. This electronics control moduleis mainly comprised by Micro-processor, Accelerometer, Deployment circuitry andEnergy reserve circuitry. This module is designed to use sensing deploymentalgorithm to distinguish the crash event. On the other hand, this module is designedin small package, high reliability, high immunity and self-diagnostic features. Also,the module was crashed and proved to have good performance.At the end of this thesis, the new safety system and further technology trend isbeing discussed.
