This thesis introduces a new random pulse generator simulated nuclear signal. The project of design, electric circuit principle design, software design of random pulse generator and pulse output circuit ...etc. are introduced in this thesis. After the statistical test and performance parameter testing to output pulse, perfect random pulse simulated nuclear signal is achieved.Owing to randomicity of nuclear event itself, statistical fluctuation occurs. This makes nuclear signal taking on Poisson distribution on time and Gaussian distribution on amplitude. Existing random pulse generator simulated nuclear signal either simulates nuclear signal from time only or from amplitude, with uniform random number but not Gaussian random number. And other limitation exists such as complex circuit and slow speed. The difficulty of the design is to make simulation signal take on statistical distribution on time and amplitude synchronously.The design combines the advantage of FPGA and VHDL, and achieves the design of random pulse generator which is Poisson distribution on time and Gaussian distribution on amplitude with VHDL as system logic description instrument. With EDA software platform(the design use ISE5.2), the design can accomplish logic compilation, logic simplification, logic layout and routing, logic simulation, till adaptive, logic map, program and download. Then it combines peripheral circuit and designs random pulse generator simulated nuclear signal.The thesis is divided into seven chapters:Chapter 1 introduces research background of random pulse generator both here and abroad and performance index which is desired to be generated by random pulse generator simulated nuclear signal devised in this thesis; Chapter 2 describes a total the project of design for the random pulse generator; Chapter 3 refers to design of random number generator, and presents interrelated concepts of random signal, statistical rules of nuclear signal, mechanism and means of random generation, comparison of the whole bag of tricks and a new method of designing; In chapter 4, software development of random number generator is introduced, and includes the FPGA development platform and design flow, Interactive Software Engineering(ISE), VHSIC Hardware Description Language(VHDL) and all VHDL procedures needed in this thesis; Chapter 5 describes the pulse output circuit, and introduces design alternative on how to use D/A converter as digital control plus amplifier and operational amplifier which transforms current to voltage; Chapter 6 describes significance testing for output random pulse in experiment. The experiment demonstrates that performance index of random pulse, which is generator simulated nuclear signal in this design, is meeting the need of general experiment. Chapter 7 is summary and outlooks.
