HGK60-10 centrifugal pump is an single grade cantilever pump, after the hydraulic experiment, we found the experiment result had a great warp with the design parameter, through the libration and head decrease phenomenon, we can speculate that cavitation is the reason. With the developing of the numerical technology and computer these years, some 3D viscous CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) softwares are used in centrifugal pump to analyze the internal flow. It is a new method for designing centrifugal pump. In this paper, we use the Fluent software to analysis the internal turbulent flow then improve the pump's performance.The main concept and research content of CFD has been given in this paper, this paper particularly introuduced the basic theory and the method of CFD and the three dimension modeling method.Based on the velocity modulus method, using efficiency and cavitation performance as optimal object, a mathematical model is established for optimal design of the impeller in this paper. After the optimal design, some parameters of the impeller such as entrance angle and diameter and have been changed. The improved impeller's efficiency and cavitation performance are better than the former one.The simulation results provide important theoretical basis for investigating the factors, which affect the efficiency of centrifugal pump. This can help to improve the design of impellers to achieve a high efficiency and wide operating range. Through the optimal model to improve the design parameter of the impeller we can improve the pump's efficiency and cavitation performance.
