Drop is the main reason for the cellular phone's broken. Drop/impact is also a kind of common phenomena widely seen in engineering projects and the impact course is a complicated dynamic response process with its particular dynamic characteristics, so the analysis and research of impact phenomena becomes very important in both theoretical and realistic engineering fields. To solve the questions of drop simulation, it is a highly efficient way to adopt the numerical simulation with the help of the combination of impact dynamics and finite element method. In this article, the author conducts the research on impact dynamics of phone drop test in the following fields:Firstly, the author sums up relatively the basic theory of impact dynamics and comes out with the general analysis way and the process of solving, thus founding the theoretical base for numerical simulation. Then the author combines the basic equation of impact dynamics with finite element method of I-DEAS and establishes the analysis method of drop/impact load.Secondly, the author conducts the drop/impact finite element simulation with a column-shaped thin-shell object, compares with the empirical datum. The experiment results are used to improve the finite element model and the improved simulation data conforms with experiment results satisfactorily;As a result, the aim of virtual reality combined simulation is achieved. Meanwhile, the experiment also proves the feasibility for drop/impact simulation analysis.Thirdly, putting a numerical structure of the cellular phone as the example, the author establishes the finite element model to study drop/impact dynamics of the cellular phone through the simulation method. By simulating different drop directions, different drop height and damp parameters of the model, the author analyses the response principles and potential failure type of the cellular phone, and finds out the weakness in structure designing and further helps improve or optimize designing after synthesizing these analysis results. This simulation method provides significant reference for the impact dynamics research on similar complex structures.Finally, the author concludes the general rules of drop/impact and the effect on drop/impact by damp from the simulation research of structure impact dynamics. In impacts like cellular phone's drop, damp will consume energy, reduce the response peaks and relieve impact efficiency.
