The appearance and development of"Eco-architecture"is driven by the negative influence on the environment from modern mechanistic architectures. In order to protect the environment we are living in and to make sure that our next generations can breath the fresh air, we need to minimize the damages on the environment from our architectures and try to make them more ecology friendly. Meanwhile, we ought to take the situation of our country into consideration and not only copy the architecture mode from western countries. Naturally, China has a large population and diversified climate; Economically, China is a developing country; Historically, we have the most diversified peoples, cultures and life styles. All these characteristics make that we have to work out a Chinese featured sustainable development way. Therefore, the writer brings forward the subject of applying ecological low technology to modern architectures and believes it's meaningful for the sustainable development of China. Commencing on the design principle of"ecological low technology", introducing from ecological materials, reproducible energy resources and natural phenomenon, combined with practical examples and relating theories, this article summarize the design method of applying ecological low technology to modern architectures and the feasibility, economy value and society benefit of ecological low technology. Besides the preface and conclusion, this article is composed of four sections.Section 1: Conspectus of ecological low technology. This section expatiates the scope of ecological low technology, the background, design principle and object, classification, economy value and society benefit of ecological low technology.Section 2: The application of ecological low technology in modern architectures. By analyzing the ecological advantages of using local material, used materials and recyclable materials, this section emphasizes that the use of low technology contributes a lot to the sustainable development of modern architectures.Section 3: The application of reproducible energy resources in modern architectures. By analyzing the use of solar energy, wind energy, bio-energy, water recycling in modern architectures, this section states the importance of reproducible energy resources to the sustainable development of modern architectures.Section 4: The application of natural phenomenon in modern architectures. By analyzing the use of draught, chimney effect, area climate effect and micro climate effect, this section states the importance of natural phenomenon to the sustainable development of modern architectures.
