The Exploration Of Architectural Form In The Initial Stage Of Information Era

At the turn of new century, the"information revolution"has exerted great effect on contemporary architecture. On one hand, with the promotion of new information technology, a great deal of exploration on new radical architectural forms rooted in architecture discipline swarms. On the other hand, from aspects of outer-discipline, the social revolution has aroused a system of readjustments of architecture with society. Although no one can predict exactly whatever subversion the profound social revolution would bring to architecture, this century definitely will be the most important transformation period of architecture discipline. While as a sensitive and key point of architecture, the architectural form faces great challenge in the new era. What kinds of architectural form will the Information Era needs? How can architectural form meets the developing requirements of the Information Era? Similar questions have been a hot point and aroused discussion inside or outside the discipline. Based on above social background, the dissertation tries to explore the architectural form of the new age----the Information Era.Architectural form is always an essential issue of architecture discipline, and it has deep and abundant connotation. Accordingly, the architectural form can neither be isolated from the social life and history context, nor be reflected simply by social factors one by one. Using the advanced"new historiography"method, the dissertation focuses on the integrated understanding of architectural form in the dynamic historical course, and avoids the superficial discussion or description on specific phenomenon. Owing to understanding above, the dissertation take the generation progress of architectural form as the research framework. Then the author exerts a comparison-study of architectural form in the initial stage of Industry Era with it in the initial stage of Information Era. Finally, with consideration of corresponding part of above two study clues, and with detailed analyses from theory to practice, the dissertation explores the typical characters of architectural form in the initial stage of Information Era rationally and scientifically.The dissertation includes six parts: Firstly, the introduction briefly describes the research background, and defines the research object, some concepts concerned and provides the research framework as well.The second chapter briefly introduces the background of the initial stage of Industry Era and the initial stage of Information Era.The third, forth and fifth chapter are main parts of the dissertation. The dissertation takes the generation progress of architectural form as the research framework. With the comparison-study method, the dissertation exerted detailed exploration on the initial stage of Information Era according to three aspects as following. First aspect focuses on the influence of living style and social ideology on architectural form. The second aspect is on the creation and construction of architectural form. The third aspect is about how can architectural form convey certain meaning and the expression of space spirit.The final chapter is the conclusion of the dissertation. In the part, the author summarizes the main characteristics of architectural form in the initial stage of Information era rationally and scientifically.
