Taking 214 State Road as experimental project, according to previous research results, a new method of widening mountain road with integral cantilever structure (ICS) is suggested. On the premise of doing no harm to original environment, making full use of exiting stable roadbed, the design principle of ICS is to widen the road with integral casting wall-pill retaining wall, which can be carried out easily and cheaply, protect the ecology and decrease the incipient geological catastrophe.Aimed at the experimental project, the design philosophy and operating principle of ICS are studied; The detailed designs of every element are researched; The minor problems, such as pavement structure, slope proofing, are discussed; The noticeable particulars during construction are advised, and measures to deal with foundation of column and anchoring of cantilever beam under various geologies and various widening demand are suggested.
