China had built more than 85,200 reservoirs, ranking the first in the world, These Reservoir played a huge role in flood control, irrigation, power generation, water supply, improvement in the ecological environment. They are importment components of the flood control engineeing system and importment infrastructures to the sustainable development of the national economy in China . Most of them built in the 20th century 50 to 70, and more than 90 percent are earth-rock dams.beasure of low standards during construction, poor quality of works, of which there are different degrees of dam risky total over30,000. ructure.Because of the influences of design,construction and management,most of the earth-rock dams are of diferent damages such as crack, leakage, coast etc, and become ill health. The existence of damage in earth-rock dam influences the normal run of reservoirs and threatens the safety of people's lives and properties.Due to the facts above,the damaged etection and quantitative evaluation of earth-rock dam becomes an important task for timely maintaining and reinforcing the damaged dams in order to avoid collapse.Based on full in vestigation of present dam damages and adapation of new theories and new methods, novel evaluation system and damage detection method are studied. The main contributions ofthis paper are as follows: Our country ground dam development general situation and circulate the present condition,the aging disease in dam in ground harms the degree the evaluation the investigative purpose with meaning,and the aging disease in dam in ground harms the reason with manage the domestic and international research presentcondition.The formation cause,evolution mechanism, type and feature of earth-rock dam aging damage are thoroughly investigated. Have applied dam break pattern and dam break probability led to by the disease ageing except that danger consolidates the method being ordered to soil stone dam to carry out analysis studying , have provided the science basis when being in progress to every project except that danger consolidates a plan, to balance whose order of importance and emergency , to be that the dam adopts corresponding taking precautions against in time , to keep measure in repair , to consolidate , reform. and have carried out the dam break pattern and dam break probability analysis on concrete instance. Measures of preventing and repairing aging damage are presented.
