This thesis is chiefly contributed to the deep study of the rotor position detection of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) control strategies. In this thesis, the PMSM is taken as the control plant, interactive MATLAB/SIMULINK as simulation tools and the digital signal processor dsPIC30F6010 as control core. The detection method based on low resolution position sensor, Pseudo-Sensorless method and the detection method based on non-contacting position sensor are analyzed and improved. In this thesis, the observe method based on low resolution position sensor is analyzed by using Fourier Transform. The advantages and disadvantages of Zero-order and First-order algorithms are analyzed under MATLAB/SIMULINK, then the improved algorithms are proposed to reduce the estimate error during the motor accelerate or decelerate.A novel Pseudo-Sensorless observe method is developed by combining the flux observed sensorless method and low resolution hall sensor signal. Taking the both advantages of these two strategies, high resolution estimation of the rotor position in every hall sector is achieved and the cumulate error of estimation is reduced. The novel non-contacting rotary position sensor, MLX90316, is introduced and the effect of configuration and fixation on its output is analyzed. The rotor position observation methods in both Analog and Serial Protocol mode are proposed. As the first version of whole angle non-contacting rotary sensor, MLX90316 has advantages as low cost, non-contacting and high resolution. The rotor position observers are developed and tested based on both the low resolution position sensor and MLX90316 by using the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor experimental system with the digital signal processor dsPIC30F6010. The observe methods mentioned above are compared together and the further development of this technology is forecasted.
