Hydroelectric generation unit not only performs generating mission, but also undertakes peak modulation, frequency modulation and emergency use in power system. It is a nonlinear, time-variable, non-minimum phase system with large variation in structure and parameters, integrated with hydraulic, mechanics and electrics. Hydraulic turbine governing system comprises hydroelectric generation unit and hydraulic turbine governor which is an important equipment that controls the frequency and power of hydroelectric generation unit. The performances and characteristics of hydraulic turbine governing system are significant on the security of power system and the quality of electric power. This paper mainly discusses the nonlinearity modeling of every part of hydraulic turbine regulating system, dynamical simulation algorithms and the method of calculating the performance and characteristic of governor, and then introduces how to develop the emulator & testing device of hydraulic turbine regulating system. On this subject, based on advanced technology, comprehensive functions and application-oriented principle, according to the status quo of the testing device of hydraulic turbine regulating system, and in application with modern testing technology, computer technology and digital simulation technology, the author develops an emulator & testing device of hydraulic turbine regulating system,which achieves system dynamics simulation, performance testing and printing the testing report.The device is composed of collection and processing of signals, calculating performance indicators, human-computer interface and high-speed communication. The parts of signals collection and processing, cored with the TMS320F2812 DSP chip, conclude signals collection, data processing and simulation calculations and etc. Calculating performance indicators with human-computer interface of a PC as a platform, which complete calculating the performance indicators, displaying, and printing the testing report, provide users with a convenient and friendly interface. High-speed communication components, based on USB2.0 communications technology, accomplish the real-time data transmission between the PC and DSP. The application with DSP and USB2.0 technology ensures coordination and synchronization on signals collection, data processing and dynamic curve displaying. This paper provides analysis and summary about the research subject.
