Two designing schemes of constrained ship model motion mechanism are provided, in which the AWD linear motion platform and crank-slip block framework are perceived as the motion center of the whole system on the basis of the framework in existence in the ship model testing water channel in the Department of Naval Architecture of Dalian University of Technology.Compared with VPMM (vertical planer motion mechanism) and HPMM (horizontal planer motion mechanism) used in the constrained ship model test, the specialties of them are combined together in the ship motion mechanism designed by the author, e.g. the VPMM is fixed for the constrained ship model test in some water channels, the roll, heave, pitch and the combination of heave and pitch/roll motion can be performed only; in another dimension, not more than the sway, yaw and the combination of sway and yaw motion can be carried out by the HPMM in some water channels. The ship model could be driven along the horizontal and vertical direction in the paths by the ship motion mechanism brought forward by the paper, furthermore the constrained ship model's movement of roll, sway, yaw, heave, pitch and the combination of some two pure motions could be achieved by this mechanism. At the same time, special attention is paid to the connection form between the forcing rod of the mechanism and the ship model and two different kind of joining structure are used for the horizontal and vertical motion respectively in order to minimum the shearing and bending forces exerted on the forcing rod and improve the life span of the whole system. And the ship model could be constrained in the designated direction and free-running in other directions.Besides, AWD linear motion platform, servo electromotor, reducer and other products related by the two schemes are introduced briefly and some specifications of products are provided as the foundation of further evaluation and detail design of the mechanism.
