As the development of technology, more and more electric products have been researched and used. The energy sources of electric products are mainly from electrical power, and a majority of the products use battery as their main power supply. Especially in the field of electric automobile in which battery is used as the main power supply, if want to obtain better performance and longer usage life, we have to monitor and manage the situation of the battery.According to the real request, this project involves research on a battery management system based on Master-slave structure. It includes monitor module an core module. The monitor module is installed on each battery box, which could check the voltage and temperature of each battery and send the data to core module to implement the management function. Core module could be installed on the car body or battery box according to the request, to implement the check for the total voltage, current, insulation and battery SOC calculation. It also could communicate with the main controller of the automobile. In hardware design, MC9S12DT128 and MC9S12C32CPB16 manufactured by FreeScale are used as controllers for core module and monitor module. They build a complete battery management platform, achieve voltage and temperature monitor for each battery and calculation for total voltage, current and SOC. In software design, C programming language is used. The communication between core module and monitor module is accomplished by RS485 protocol. The data exchange between battery management system and main controller of the automobile use CAN 2.0B protocol. Considering the big quantity of manufacturing, commissioning system and PC commissioning software are also developed, which could debug each part of the battery management system.
