Fiber bundle filtration process has been widely applied in industrial water,water supply,and effluent polishing at home since it was invented in 1980s. However, there is still lack of enough pilot-scale and production-scale experience in term of applying this process in the raw water from branch of Huangpu River. A special study was conducted in water plant of shanghai petrochemical Co. Ltd. in order to compare the process of fiber bundle filtration with the other process of homogenous filtration.In this paper, the removal efficiency of conventional water quality parameters by the fiber bundle filtration and homogenous filtration process after the micro-polluted raw water was treated by the coagulation and sedmination/air-floation and the rule of operating period were mainly discussed in the pilot-scale test. And in the production-scale test, the removal efficiency of many water quality parameters of clarifier effluent which is for the production by the fiber bundle filtration and homogenous filtration was discussed. The rule of the operating period and the beginning (1hours) effluent water quality parameters of fiber bundle filtrer and homogenous filter was studied. Some optimal operating parameters for the fiber bundle filtration process were determined through the experiment. Using one organic glass post, several influencing factors for the fiber bundle filtration are also researched, based on the monitors of water quality parameters for more than four months.The main research achievements of this paper include: In the pilot-scale test, the fiber bundle filtration has great superiority for the removal of turbidity and color unit after the micro-polluted raw water is treated by the coagulation and sedimentation/air-floation, compared with the homogenous filtration. It can make the quantity of suspension substance in a low level, and the efficiency of turbidity removal can reach 95%. Besides, the efficiency of removal CODMn by fiber bundle filtration is much better than the homogenous filtration. But these two filtration processes have low removal efficiency for the NH3-N. The fiber bundle filtration has the same removal efficiency for the turbidity and color unit when it is on the high-rate as it is on the normal rate. The operating period of the fiber bundle filtration is much longer than the homogenous filtration. In the production scale test, the effect that fiber bundle filter has more superiority on the removal of turbidity and color unit than the homogenous filter is much more remarkable than in the pilot-scale test. The removal efficiency of NH3-N and CODMn by fiber bundle filter is similar to the effect in the pilot-scale test. Within 1 hour of the beginning of the filtration, fiber bundle filter has much shorter time to reach the normal water quality parameters than homogenous filter on the normal filtration rate. On the high loading filtration rate, the time that fiber bundle filter reach the normal water quality parameter has negative pertinence with the filtration rate. And the operating period is much longer than period in the pilot-scale test which is 32 h, reaching 42h. The homogenous filter can only be operated for 24h. The organic glass post indicates that the filitration efficiency is influenced by the contraction of the filter,the density of the filtering media and the height and density of the compressed layer.
