Chlorine dioxide is a strong oxidant and has been used in many fields, such as disinfection, bleach, water treatment technology, etc.The practical application of chlorine dioxide is studied in this research. The research mainly contains two parts: first, chlorine dioxide is used to oxidize the odor form wastes. A small scale odor-remove machine is being developed. Second, chlorine dioxide is used in micro-polluted water treatment. The raw water of Jiading Water Supply Company is from Shugou River which has been polluted recent years. The disinfection effect of chlorine dioxide especially in this water and the influence factors of chlorine dioxide in pre-oxidation are studied.The results of the research are as follows. The results of research on odor-removal indicate that the quantity of odor is related to temperature and time of deposition. When the temperature is higher than 26℃, the increasing of odor is faster. In this research, when 10kg waste is deposited for 2d and the temperature is about 2~34℃, the range of dosage of chlorine dioxide is 16.5mg~30mg. The space time between using chlorine dioxide is about 5~7.5 hours. The dosage and space time of chlorine dioxide should be adjusted according to different concentration of odor.When chlorine dioxide is employed in water treatment, the disinfection effect of chlorine dioxide is better than chlorine and the dosage is less. When chlorine dioxide is used in pre-oxidation of micro-polluted water, the change of CODMn has the greatest influence. The connection between consumption of chlorine dioxide and CODMn is: chlorine dioxide consumption = 0.0737 CODMn +0.2838(mg/L). the dosage of chlorine dioxide is suggested to be about 0.75~1.2mg/L. The dosage can satisfy the quantity of chlorine dioxide in the end of pipe net and the quantity of chlorite is less than the requirement of Standards for Drinking Water Quality.When powder activated carbon and potassium permanganate are used in water treatment, the dosage point is suggested before filtration. If chlorine dioxide is dosed before coagulation, chlorite in effluent is higher and the residual chlorine dioxide can't satisfy the requirement of Standards for Drinking Water Quality. There is an attenuation process of chlorine dioxide in drinking water disinfection and the attenuation process can satisfy first-degree dynamic equation. The iodometric method and visual colorimetric analysis method are suggested to employed together to detect the residual chlorine,chlorine dioxide and chlorite in the water.
