The thesis is based on the project"Theoretical research and design of key technique for deep-submicron power management IC (Integrated Circuit)", and aimed at the application of the portable electronic products powered by batteries. A Boost DC-DC converter is successfully designed and realized in this thesis, based on the study of the implementation technique of pulse width modulation current mode in DC-DC converter. This regulator can generate an output voltage as high as 13V with a wide range of input voltage from 2.6V to 5.5V. It has the advantages of high-precision, simple peripheral circuit, low power consumption, wide range of working temperature from -25℃to 85℃,high efficiency of convertibility (reaching 90%). Meanwhile, over and under voltage protection circuits, over temperature protection circuit and other protection circuits are integrated which make the system more reliable and stable. Cooperating with simple periphery components, a DC-DC converter is realized, which can be used in various portable applications.In the thesis, the developing trend and marketing future of power management ICs are set forth first, and the basic operation principle and topologies of DC-DC converters are presented then, in which the current-mode control is mainly discussed. After the basic theory introduction, the whole chip structure is laid out and analyzed according to the function requirements and performance indicators. Some chief sub-block circuits are explained and analyzed in detail about its designing principle and process. All the electrical characteristics and some important parameters are validated by simulating on the powerful EDA (Electronic Design Automatic) software HSPICE. Finally, the performance of the whole chip is simulated combined with some representative parameters. The results match the requirements of the design, which reaches the objective of the design and validates the workability of the designing theory. It is a worthwhile and valuable combination of theory and practice and will be an important reference to similar project in the future.
