This thesis carries out some studies on the service behavior of the tapered pile and its mechanical properties in different soil layers, including the analyses of the theoretic bearing capacity and settlement, the field experiment results and analysis of economical effectiveness of the tapered pile.Firstly, according to the shape and the load behavior of the tapered pile, the earth pressure around the tapered pile is calculated based on Coulomb's theory, and the formula for calculating capacity are derivated and analyzed under different conditions using the Mathematica software and self-made software, by means of limiting equilibrium analysis. Meanwhile, the article analyzes the influence of soil condition on the ultimate bearing capacity of the tapered pile. Then, the conclusions that the ultimate bearing capacity increases with the spray angle are drawn based on theoretic analysis and test result.Secondly, the article introduces the basic structure and the key design-construction points of the tapered pile, and the economic analysis is given by some examples, It is shown that the construction cost of the tapered pile is lower than that of the common pile.Finally, the article concludes and analyzes and application situations of the tapered pile theory by getting together the test results with the application in engineering, and it can be proved that the tapered pile is an advanced pile shape and is worth to be applied widely.
