Model experiment is a rewarding supplement and improvement of theoretical calculation to design of bridges, with the development of the methods of experimental testing and theories, model experiment can effectively simulate real bridge and capture the information of structural behaviors. Model experiment can verify and supplement theoretical results, if it is combined with theoretical calculation in use. Model experiment which simulates all the stages of construction is preview of the process of real construction, itself which can not be replaced by other means has similarity of engineering. It may find problems during design and construction in advance as a way to nip troubles in the bud. This paper was based on Chongqing Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge which was long span continuous steel truss tied arch bridge. By using finite element analysis software Midas Civil 6.7.1, 1/40 model bridge of Chongqing Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge was executed spatial analysis according to definitive stages of construction and operation. Comparison between the simulated results of stress and the measured ones showed that they were close during all stages of construction and operation. According to the measured results of stress of bars whose stress was large during all stages of construction, we could calculate stress of corresponding bars of real bridge, the results showed that these bars worked in elastic condition; structure was safe during the construction of real bridge.
