The truck's drive axle housing is the important carrying and passing component. As a very widely applicable product, banjo axle housing not only support the weights of vehicle and transfer loads to cartwheels at the same time, but also withstands the opposite force of tractive force, braking force, lateral force and vertical force as well as the counter-torque act on the wheels and transfer to the frame and body through suspension fork. Also,because of the phantasmagoric road conditions, the axle housing coule get deformed or broken under the affection of shocking loads which generated between carwheels and ground. So the drive axle housing must have enough intensity, rigidity and good dynamic performance, the reasonably desiged drive axle housing can also improve the ride comfort of the vehicle.In this paper, the automobile drive axle housing is studyed as an example, the reductionism drawing is put forward, and the axle housing's FEM model is established too. On the basis of this model, the FEA is simulated in computer under the circumstance of MSC.Nastran to get the results of static analysis, static stiffness analysis Fatigue Analysis and the frequency and vibration shape under the constranit. The results show that the axle housing meets the strength stiffness demand ,on the base, the method of the structural FEM analysis summarized. On the side, in order to reduce its weight, the housing is optimized by the using of MSC.Nastran, then the structural FEM analysis implemented too after the optimization, we can elicit that the conclusion is impactful.This study shows that during the design of the truck's drive axle housing, the use of the FEA can mostly shorten the product's researchful period, improve the performance, quality and reliability, reduce the product's researchful cost and heighten the rivalrousness. This method is universality, can be the example of the other type drive axle housing.
