The city bus is one of the important traffic tools for city residents’ dailytravel, and every day in the city, the main traffic road driving back and forth. Asthe image of a city, Buses’ performance directly reflected in all aspects ofenvironment construction level and modernization level of a city. As one of themain bearing components on the vehicle, the main role of drive axle housing isto support and protect the main reducer, differential and axle shaft, etc., and tofix axially relative position of the left and right wheels. Due to the use of busesin good working condition, the drive axle housing strength, stiffness, and thequality of the axle housing is often too large, the material redundancy serious.Based on the EQ6100KR bus chassis drive axle housing as the researchobject, using the finite element analysis software HyperMesh and nCodeDesignLife, analyze the static and dynamic characteristics of the drive axlehousing, fatigue characteristics. Application size optimization techniques for thedrive axle housing lightweight design. The main work is as follows:1) The application of finite element analysis software HyperMesh toestablish the finite element model, the rationality of the finite element model bycomparing the results of theoretical modal analysis and experimental modalanalysis is verified, provides a reasonable model for static and dynamic analysisof the following. 2) Analysis of static strength under typical conditions of the drive axlehousing, the results show that the drive axle housing strength and stiffness is farbeyond the use of standards, which prove the serious structure qualityredundancy, and provide a theoretical basis for the structure optimization of theback.3) The drive axle housing modal analysis was constrained at both ends ofregional combination of half shaft casing and hub bearing, obtained naturalfrequency and vibration of the first four order of the mode. The results show thatthe drive axle housing is not from the outside excitation resonance phenomenon.4) Based on fatigue analysis software nCode DesignLife, according to load,fatigue type and material parameters of the drive axle housing, the drive axlehousing fatigue life analysis should be on the choice of the nominal stressmethod and Miner linear cumulative damage rule.5) Finally, the drive axle housing has been designed to optimize the size ofa small post about18.2kg after optimize than before on the total mass. The staticanalysis and fatigue life analysis of the optimization drive axle housing verifythe static performance and fatigue reliability of the optimized axle housing.
