In my opinion, styling design of Chinese automobile shall, be not only self-determination design, but also self-determination design that combines extinctive Chinese features.As an industrial invention of the western countries, automobile differs greatly with the eastern culture in the structural and cultural characteristic that accumulated during its long course of evolution. However, as Chinese automotive industry as a pillar industry steps into the self-determination development phase, the broad and profound Chinese culture urgently demands automotive industry which is deeply concerned by people to find a suitable mode of expression out of the demand of not only interest of the automotive industry, but also social culture development. The traditional Chinese pattern combined with occult Chinese thought has become the object which the Chinese automobile stylists try to apply. Many examples of bold exploration in this aspect can be observed in more and more self-determination concept vehicles shown at domestic auto exhibitions.As one of the representations of the state image, state guest car styling is the best thesis to probe into the extinctive Chinese car styling design because design of the state guest car demands a more typical sum-up and abstraction of extinctive Chinese features, rather than the simplicity of design of common styling concept. Hongqi brand, which shoulders the responsibility of state guest car for decades is a representative of self-determination brand of the Chinese automobile industry, is the sole domestic car brand so far that has long-standing history and profound culture, of whom brand culture kept on evolving till today. The combination of state guest car with Hongqi brand not only contains good research possibility and academic value, but also has necessity to keep pace with development of the times.This article extends its thinking in the relationship between extinctive Chinese styling and auto design based on the study of historical models of Hongqi state guest car, and discusses in-depth the creation philosophy of new generation HQE styling, in a bid to explore on how to reflect the extinctive Chinese styling in auto styling field.
