The boom is the key component and the primary holding-force part of excavator. In the process of construction, the boom appears cracked or overstepping its intensity and rigidity because it always bears complex instantaneous impact load. The security of excavator will be directly affected by the demand of the boom's intensity and rigidity. It is very important for improving the structure of the boom if the magnitude of stress,strain,the frequency of vibration,and the distribution of intensity,rigidity in the process of constructions are all-rightly and entirely studied and if the feeble region andsuperfluous parts are found, and then the optimized design of the boom is carried out. With the object of the boom of excavator on certain type of HYUNDAI, with the method of FEM and mechanism dynamics as the theoretical foundation, this paper carries out the dynamic numerical value simulation reserach and the optimized design for the boom by using Pro/MECHANICA and ANSYS because of the need for research and development of the new excavator. The works have been done as follows:(1) According to the structural size of the boom, the entitative model is built by using Pro/ENGINEER (three-dimension modeling software).(2) To carry out intensity check for the finity element model of the boom under different working conditions by using Pro/MECHANIACA.(3) To carry out the modality analysis, instantaneous analysis and the humorous response analysis for the model by using Pro/MECHANIACA and ANSYS so as to find the boom's intrinsic frequency and vibration-shape, to analyze the stress and strain, and to gain reliable analyzing parameter.(4) To gain the data by carring on the stress-strain and the vibration test to the boom of the excavator and to compare the data with the data of the finity element analysis, so as to prove the reliability of the finity element analysis.(5) To carry out the analysis of sensitivity and optimized design of the boom, so as to gain the optimized model by using Pro/MECHANIACA.Along with development of the computer technology and the numerical analysis method, the finite element method has been widely applied in the structural analysis, and the amazing result has been yielded, and it has become an important tool in design for the modern mechanical product. ANSYS and other commonly used the finity element analysis software are often used in the finity element analysis of the project machine, however, Pro/MECHANICA is less used, and it is especially least used in the analysis by using the combination of Pro/MECHANICA and ANSYS. So this paper makes a good try for the combination of the two kinds of software.
