Energy consumption of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) is a major part of building energy consumption, and the wide application of HVAC technology makes building energy consumption increase excessively. So, energy saving in HVAC is an important way to achieve building energy conservation. The groundwater source heat pump (GWSHP) system appears with the requirement of both energy saving and environmental protection, with groundwater as cold/heat source, consists of three parts, the water-source heat pump unit, the groundwater heat exchange subsystem, and the building subsystem. But many problems occur in projects. It is a common phenomenon that designers use GWSHP system blindly without analysis of hydrographic conditions, and pay no attention to choosing the well builder, and dig wells and construct without geology exploration and design. Consequently, this phenomenon leads to some problems, such as, insufficient water in production wells, injecting ability depressing; bad recharge ability in inverted well. Finally, the system is low-efficient in operation, even out of work. Therefore, on the foundation of the existing problems in the current application of GWSHP system, combined with several projects in Beijing, energy-saving diagnosis and optimization are carried out from several aspects by applying the theory into practice, including the applied condition, geological survey and design, load characteristics, the system feasibility evaluation index system. The key study is performed as follows.Firstly, conception, composition, characteristics and main issues of GWSHP system are introduced, applied condition of GWSHP system is also pointed out.Secondly, a scientific and reasonable GWSHP system design should refer to two major parts, geological reconnaissance design and air-conditioning system design. Hydrogeology condition is the key factor, which decides whether to use GWSHP system or not. Based on the applicability and hydrogeology condition for GWSHP system, three kinds of system applicability areas (the good, the average and the bad) are presented in Beijing district. Through several projects, heat source well, groundwater recharge, groundwater desanding and system formation are discussed.Thirdly, Taking a certain typical GWSHP system for residential building as example, simulate the system load, discuss the system load characteristic, and compare with the measured data to test the reliability of simulation result.Fourthly, the famous methods of systems engineering, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation (FCE), are used in this paper. And the index system of GWSHP system in feasibility is established, which is validated by a practical project. Finally, a typical residential area is selected in the Beijing area, and the applications of GWSHP system is analyzed.
