Domestic and foreign bridge designers have researched into the solar radiation influence on bridge structure ,but these researches are focus on the bridge upper structure, especially on box girder. but for bridge substructures ,especially the column piers, although its computational theory has already been fairly maturity, but there are less literature resources about the temperature effect on column piers, as the bridge structure computational theory developing deeply and particularly, the research in solar radiation influence on column piers will also go deeply and particularly. Based on research and analysis literature resources about temperature field in concrete structure and bridge upper structure, This paper research solar radiation influence on column piers and its temperature field and the stress in the structure caused by this temperature field. This paper use ANSYS Finite element analysis progress to calculate the temperature field and the temperature stress, and discuss briefly the influence caused by the temperature stress on column piers. For calculating the secondary forces caused by annual range of temperature and stress caused by static load in bridge design and construction, according to the current Highway Bridge Design Code in China , this paper compiles program based on Plane Finite Bar Elements to calculate the stress in column piers. Using the result from MIDAS/CIVIL bridge calculate program compare to the result from the progress compiled in this paper and verified its effectiveness, and the calculated result shows the annual range of temperature influence on column piers.
