This thesis introduces the method, theory and results of 3-D FEMcalculation on temperatur field and thermal-creep-stress field in theroller compacted concrete high arch dams.1. On the base of Zone-merged Algorithm and HeterogeneousElement Methd, a new method is advanced named Layer-merged andHeterogeneous Element Method(LHEM). In LHEM, two kinds of modelsare used which are the even model and the equivalent deformation model. In the layer-merged heterogeneous element, some physical quanities aresuccessively handled in vertical. And, some discussion is done about theeffect on the equivalent elastic matrix made by the relative thickness andreducing coefficient of elastic module in the lower elastic module layer.2. Some questions are discussed in 3-D FEM analysis oftemperaturefield and thermal-creep-stress field in Roller Compacted Concrete Dams(RCCD). They are defining of initial temperature, defining the length ofcalculation step, evaluation of water temPerature in reservoir, simulatingof temperature boundary, defining parameters of elastic module and creep.A program is developed to solve the question on defining parameters ofcreep.3. A program is developed on the base of LHEM. The advancing ofLHEM is proved feasible. The program is proved dependable andpractical. It can greatiy improve the computing efficiency on the premiseof ensuring accuracy. And, it realizes the unity between accuracy andefficiency.4. A 3-D FEM calculation of temerature field and thermal-creep-stress field is done in the roller compacted concrete high arch dam. Someresults are reached. It is needed to control the air tempeture and theconsucting tempeature because that they have great effect on the insidetemperature of the dam. Several adverse regions appear in the arch damWhere the stresses are bigger.
