With the development of electric power industry, amount of thermal/nuclear power plants were constructed which make use of adjacent water area as the source of cooling water, the normal acquisition of cooling water is an important assurance to economy and safe operation of power plant. It is very important to prevent sediment depositing and ensure water intaking that researching the law of flow movement and sediment deposition in water intake.On the basis of generalizing international relevant theoretical research and experimental achievement, the current characteristic of flow and sediment deposition in water intake was studied preliminarily combined with Kemen physical model about water intake engineering in this paper. The main contents and conclusions include:1. Base on the reading of extensive literature, research for the present stateand perspectives about flow movement acted by dock and sediment in water intake of power plant.2. The design method of physical model test about current characteristic and sediment deposition in water intake was introduced.3. Tidal current and sediment test was conduct combining with engineering practice of Kemen power plant, the tidal level and velocity between physical model and original observation was matched well, the error of total sediment deposition between them meet the relevant norm. 4. The influence to current characteristic near water intake and spout by the implement of dock,trestlework,intake and drainage engineering was analyzed according to results of physical model.5. The state of sediment deposition in engineering area influenced by tidal current and wind wave after the implement of intake and drainage engineering was analyzed according to suspended load test of fixed bed model, the capability of taking silt of current was reduced in engineering area due to the bottom elevation below to original bed river and the implement of dock and trestlework, which made sediment deposition possible near water intake.The research findings of the paper have higher reference value to similar engineering and the research method has definite academic value.
