The shield tunneling machine is a type of complicated engineering equipment which is related with subjects of machinery, electronics, hydraulics, measurement and control, and is widely applied in the underground tunnel excavation. Based upon the different kinds of geological conditions, each shield tunneling machine has to be designed and manufactured individually. However, the present design theory and method of the shield tunneling machine are not perfect. Therefore it is necessary to establish a simulator test rig of shield tunneling machine to simulate the tunnel excavations under the conditions of different local geological structures. In this article, a new design theory and a calculation method in the electro-hydraulic control system are proposed to improve the design level of the shield tunneling machine. EPB shield tunneling machine represents for the most advanced technology of modern shield machine and so it's significant to research on it. This will be helpful for promoting the design and manufacturing level of our nation and enlarging domestic shield machine occupation percents. Hydraulic driving system for head cutter is an important content of shield tunneling machine simulator. So the whole level of control quality of shield tunneling machine will be prompted if head cutter driving system is perfectly researched.The hydraulic control system for head cutter in shield tunneling machine is discussed in this paper. The electro-hydraulic proportional control system is designed including theoretical design, hydraulic valve design and system integrated design. Moreover, the head cutter behaves quite differently in different earth condition. So the test data are concluded to indicate the different rule cutter torque and angular speed followed in different earth condition. And the simulative analyzing of head cutter rotary speed and load adaptation is done by using AMESim. Realizing a new method of power adaptive control on head cutter drive system by classifying and predicating the earth condition using Pattern Recognition and Expert Experience. These results would provide the theoretical reference for shield design and manufacture.The main content of each chapter is summarized as following:In chapter 1, the history and current research status of the shield tunneling machine are introduced based on a lot of the publications and conference papers. The key techniques of electro-hydraulic control systems of shield tunneling machine are also described. The general current status of techniques in cutter head driving system is summarized Consequently, the research and goal of the project are brought forward.In chapter 2, a plan schedule of head cutter drive hydraulic system that could fit the complicate work conditions of shield tunneling machine is introduced in this chapter. Analyzing the function and theory of control modules in this system and complete its theoretically design, calculation and component selecting.In chapter 3, the test condition is introduced and the different rules that head cutter torque and angular speed followed in different earth condition are also discussed. Simulative analyzing the head cutter hydraulic driving system with the simulating software AMESim. The results indicate that this system with better angular speed regulating characteristic and better load adaptation characteristic.In chapter 4, a new power adaptive control method using on this hydraulic system basing on earth condition recognition is designed. This method classifies the earth condition by Statistic basing on the test result. The numerical parameter standing for earth condition is calculated by means of closeness is accepted by expert experience library and then output the control parameter of head cutter that will adapt for the earth condition.In chapter 5, some conclusions are given and some new views are put forward in the future.
