Incineration treatment for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has many advantages such as volume reduction, harmless treatment and reutilization and so on, waste incineration technology has been used more and more widely in the world. In many cities of our country, the moisture content of MSW are often higher than 45%, this has bring a series of difficulties for the incineration. As one of the subject on municipal solid waste incineration, experiments were done on drying of seven kinds of typical MSW including potato block, watermelon peel, office waste paper, pure cotton cloth block, wood block, chipboard and branch in muffle furnace and Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Incinerator to study the drying characteristics.A series of drying performance curves were obtained, influences on drying process of drying temperature, wind speed and bed height were analyzed. Kinetic analysis on drying of the waste was done, heat and mass transfer process were also discussed. The experimental results show that: 1 .Drying rate increases with specific surface area of the waste.2. With the increase of the temperature in muffle furnace from 100℃to 200℃,the biggest drying rate of potato increased two times,the biggest drying rate of the rest kinds of MSW increased three times.3.The higher of wind speed in CFB,the bigger of the drying rate, the less of the bed height,the higher of the drying rate. 4.0btained the apparent activation energy of the drying reaction of seven kinds of MSW,gained the Arrhenius equation, the function relationship between mass-loss rate and drying time.5.Analyzed the influence of heat flux on drying process,gained the linear relationship between the radiative heat transfer coefficient and difference in temperature, the linear relationship between the average effective diffusion coefficient of wood block and potato block and drying tempeture.The result and data of this experimental research can provide design references for new style incinerator to appropriate for the high moisture content and low caloric value character, and also provide references for theoretical study on heat and mass transfer within waste during drying process.
