With quick development of traffic construction, the integrity of capability of existing bridges in traffic system is becoming more important. Many bridges with structural defects and diseases will severe restrict the development of economy and endanger people's life. Reconstruction would spend more time and money. Huge investment of manpower and financial resources don't accord with basic national conditions in China at present. It will be a urgent and special task of bridge construction in our country in quite a long period in future that how to make full use of existing bridges and make effective technical transformation. It has great economic value and social significance. In this paper based on real project, strengthening technical principle and its application have been analyzed and researched. The main works are as follows:(1) The research significance and status in quo at home and abroad of bridge reinforcement have been reviewed. Evaluation methods of bridge capability and reinforcement design principles have been summed up. And the causes of bridge diseases have been analyzed. Reinforcement technical methods of bridges in common use have been summed up.(2) Combined with engineering example and focusing on engineering characteristics, external prestressing reinforcement schemes is mainly used and meanwhile section enlargement method, deck reinforcement method and pasting steel plate reinforcement method have been combined with it after analyzing the bridge diseases. Then reinforcement mechanism and application in real engineering examples are analyzed.(3) Based on finite element theory, the whole spatial model and local entity model are established to analyze the bridge. External prestressing system has been calculated. The entity of finite element is used to make stress analysis for local member. Different methods is used to deal with concrete part in reinforcement process and each method is calculated. Checking calculations of indexes such as bearing capacity, anti-crack, deflections and stress and so on after reinforcement have been maden. Rationality and validity of reinforcement scheme have been checked by comparing results after strengthening with that before strengthening. (4) Considering the relations between each reinforcement measure and the influence of construction technology on reinforcement effect, researches on reinforcement construction procedure amd technology have been maden.
