Digital image processing technique appeared in 1960s, and with many years development, it has been sophisticated right now. With the development of computer technology, digital image processing technique has merged into every research filed. It will supply a new approach for the research of asphalt mixture. Under this background, the application of digital image processing technique in the research of asphalt mixture was presented in this dissertation.On the background of researches inside and outside country, and cooperating experiments with theories analysis, the paper makes a deep research about digital image processing including catching image, image pre-processing, segment, trace and tactic analysis. On this basement, the paper analyses the correlation between the microscopic parameters of SBS modified asphalt and the pavement performance through the fluorescence optical microscopy. At the same time, an approach to evaluation the pavement surface segregation based on the digital image processing is submitted. Then the paper introduces a method to catch and analyses the 2D and 3D image parameters of aggregation. What's focused on, the paper research the internal structure of asphalt concrete including the touching points of aggregation, the image feature of the asphalt mastic, the long axle direction of aggregation in asphalt and the 2D aggregation distribution in hot mixture segment. Finally, the paper introduces a method to trace the aggregation particles under the rut load with the digital image processing and a model to predict the rut depth in inside test base the digital image processing and the BP network.
