China is a kingdom of bicycles with most people taking it as the most important tool of transportation. Due to the ubiquity of bicycles, transportation system becomes more complicated and mixed traffic is also extremely prominent. Moreover, the interference of bicycles on motor vehicles is one important inducement to cause traffic jams. Therefore, it is meanful to optimize mixed traffic.Proposed in 1990s, this new dynamics model CA (Cellular Automaton) Model for Traffic Flow and its development has offered us not only a new theoretical approach to traffic flow, but also an efficient tool in regard to the study of systematic integrative behaviors and complex phenomena in dynamic theories of traffic flow.At the beginning of this paper, we reviews the classical models in traffic flow theories, and explores in depth the connotation of CA Model for Traffic Flow and its main models application. On this basis, models for mixed traffic flow in Chinese cities are built and their validity and reliability are analyzed through simulation. The detailed findings are shown as follows:Planar CA model for bicycle flow has been built in chapter 3. This model not only takes maximum velocity differences between different riders into consideration, but also probes into random slowdown probability and finds that random slowdown is directly proportional to velocity. The result of simulation indicates that this model is of high performance in the aspects of capacity simulation and velocity simulation, consistent with theoretical values and measured values.Chapter 4 proposes two ameliorated CA models for bicycles and motor vehicles: one is under this condition of frication interference in mixed traffic. It concludes that when the density of motor vehicles is and that of bicycles, the velocity of motor vehicles is much more sensitive to the change of bicycles density while bicycles are rarely interfered by frication interference. The validity of models is also validated by instances.Another model is under the situation of retraced interference in mixed traffic. Simulation results demonstrate that in this situation the interference influences on both bicycles and motor vehicles are significant.
