The mixed traffic flow which is composed of motorized vehicle, nonmotorized vehicle and pedestrian is the main characteristic of China's urban traffic nowadays, and will also be the inevitable trend in the future. It is one of the most important reasons for explaining the traffic congestion. Proper traffic modeling has great and profound significance on traffic management, urban traffic planning, urban mixed traffic flow simulation as well as traffic safety.According to the research and analysis of objects's characteristics in the mixed traffic flow, a new extended cellular automaton traffic model based on matrix was proposed. Combined with parallel and heterogeneous structure, an integreted model was developed to study the mixed traffic flow of both the road section and intersection in this paper. The main contributions of this paper were concluded as follows:(I) Large-scale traffic videos were cameraed in the 4 different real scenes, from which data are collected and analyzed in order to study the various objects's microscopic behaviors and characteristics in the mixed traffic flow in details.(II) According to the extracted traffic characteristics, a single traffic flow model from microscopic level based on extended cellular automaton was established, which introduced characteristic matrix and decisive probability matrix to translate the objects'behaviors into simple probability solution.(III) In order to realize the crossing conflicts between the various traffic objects in the mixed traffic flow, parallel and heterogeneous structure was introduced in the single traffic flow model mentioned. It was a distributed system spatially and functionally, which reflected the real situations of mixed traffic flow better.(IV) Road section and intersection model of mixed traffic flow based on the extended CA were established respectively. And the results were compared with the original model and real data extracted to analyze and prove the validation of the model proposed in this paper.
