High performance ferrocement (HPF) technology is a new method which has perfect comprehensive benefits, applied to reinforcing the concrete structure and masonry structure. Depending on the fine properties of the materials and the reliable anchorage measures, both the ferrocement layer and the original bodies work harmoniously as a whole. The method can greatly improve the performance of components. In order to put this method into practice, research team was set up in civil engineering department of Hunan University, which has taken on several research projects in this field. By means of test and theoretical research on the performance of full-scale beams under secondary load, this thesis will make valuable contributions to the past achievements, and provide full and accurate experiments and theory to practice projects.Firstly, based on the loading test of 5 full-scale beams (a contrast beam and 4 reinforced concrete beams), the influences of different strengthened reinforcement ratio on reinforced beams of the ultimate strength, deformation properties, cracks and failure modes are studied. On the basis of the test results and theoretical analysis, simplified formula is proposed for the reinforced beams about the limits of the strengthened reinforcement ratio, considering the delayed response both of the strengthened reinforcements and ferrocement and the influence of the net of the reinforcements on the sides of the beam on the bearing capacity of the strengthened beams.Non-linear finite element methods is employed to simulate the process of the loading test, using the finite element analysis software ANSYS. In order to testify the effectivity of strengthening method, the test values are compared with the results of model, Based on the discussion of the causes of structural performance deterioration, a time-variant reliability calculation model is developed and Monte Carlo simulation is introduced to calculate failure probability. Finally a method is proposed to predict the remaining service life through example analysis.Lastly, the construction technology and the controlling methods for the construction quality are proposed. The application of formula is illustrated through a project example, for the sake of the spread of this technology applying in practice project.
