In this thesis, an applied method of calibrating the strapdown inertial measurement unit (SIMU) of middle and low accuracy under the condition of battle is studied. Compared with classical methods, this method alleviates the dependence upon test facilities, needs a SIMU of high precision to substitute testing swivel table. By use of standard navigation outputs, we can separate the errors of gyro and accelerometer effectively. The error models of gyro and accelerometer and system error state equation are analyzed firstly. Secondly, by use of piece-wise constant systems (PWCS), the observability of state equation is construed comprehensively, and a prime method of boosting up the observability is found out if condition permitting. The route of calibration is designed. After that, the whole course of error separation is explained particularly by calculation. This project is simulated in MATLAB and the result is analyzed precisely. The simulation is programmed with compiling different routes; the effect of filter periods, the precision of initial alignment and the errors of main INS are analyzed. The simulation result shows that this method meets the request of precision. In the end, the proving experiment has been done with present test equipment. Calibration result shows that this project is feasible, possessing practicability in engineering. This project is applicable to calibrate period SIMU that reserve perennial the box, and also applicable to calibrate SIMU that install the missile. It is of great value not only to this model but also other models with SIMU of middle and low accuracy.
