China is one of the countries with serious landslide disaster in the world. Landslide disaster has threatened the people's life and property and the sustainable development of economy and society. Recently, with the continuous development of our country's modernization, many slope projects and more and more high and steep slopes have appeared. Therefore, analyzing and evaluating the slope stability in an accurate and reliable way will play a significant role in predicting and forecasting the landslide.Genetic Algorithm(GA for short) is an adaptive global search algorithm which is developed on the base of natural selection and natural genetic mechanisms of the drawing nature. It has a high parallelism, a better universal and global optimization capabilities. And therefore, it has been widely used in many scientific fields. In this paper, various methods of slope stability which is commonly used have been analysised and researched, including the advantages and disadvantages of them. The development trend analysis of the evaluation methods has been predicted also in the article. The theory of Genetic Algorithms has been researched systematically. Take the simple homogeneous clay slope for research object, the Genetic Algorithm was introduced into the study of the slope stability. And then, a genetic algorithm optimization model which is based on the Swedish method and the Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search Toolbox of MATLAB were established. Examples show that this optimization model is feasible and effective. Finally, a relations of slope stability factor of safety with the slope of the parameters was discussed by using the genetic algorithm optimization model which is mentioned above.
