At present, the approach of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill is widely applied all over the world. The dynamic stability problem of lanfills has been concerned by engineers, which is not completely solved till now. The solution to the value of dynamic response of every point in the soil is called seismic analysis. By means the analysis, not only the vibration wave of landfills can be known ,but also a better evaluation of the seismic behavior of the landfill and the law of dynamic load propagation be understanded .These provide guidance to seismic design.The 2-D dynamic finite element method (FEM) is used in this paper to carry out a typical valley-type landfill analysis by undrainage dynamic effective stress method. Some factors such as foundation stiffness, dynamic load period and amplitude, the rigidity of MSW landfills are considered to investigate the acceleration response characteristics at the top of landfills from the angle of the relationship of the fundamental period of site and landfill and the dominant period of the earthquake. The law of acceleration response characteristics of landfills is obtained.At last, the stresses in the landfill is calculated by FEM and the safety factor F_s worked out in the view of limit equilibrium .By Newmark's method its displacement is estimated.The stability of it is also evaluated.
