The Yangtze River is a navigable river reach that is of most importance, that has the largest transport scale, and that is the busiest in inland water transport of our country. The river section from Maanshan to Luzhou spans the upper, middle, and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Different legs of the channel, fluctuation variation of water levels in different seasons in this section differ greatly, and the swale in different water levels impedes navigation obviously. These conditions affect the safe navigation of ships and the economic benefit of ship's operation, and restrict the overall enhancement of shipping level in Yangtze River to some extent. The real water depth of the channel is larger than the dredging depth in the overwhelming majority of a year, and the disagreement of the two leads to serious tonnage loss for ship's loading, which seriously impacts the ship's loading efficiency.At present, relevant shipping companies and ships analyzed the hot topic on the shoal in the major line of Yangtze River and limiting ship's draft in lower water period, and discussed increasing ships' carrying capacity as far as possible in the pre-condition of guaranteeing safety. It is necessary to limit ships' draft in lower water period of Yangtze River, and to control ships' draft safely, reasonably and scientifically according to the objective condition of the water depth of Yangtze River channel, and to increase the ships' carrying capacity as far as possible as well as guaranteeing safe and smooth transport.The research of this paper is in favor of excavating traffic capacity of the channel from Maanshan to Luzhou at present and in the future, increasing ships' operating efficiency and economic benefit, and accounts in transfixion of golden waterway of Yangtze River and enhancing the overall navigation level of Yangtze River.The major factors affecting ships' navigation safety and operating efficiency in the channel of this section were concluded, basing on the diagnoses of shipping conditions and shipping companies' operating conditions from Maanshan to Luzhou. The major river reaches that impedes navigation from Maanshan to Luzhou were analyzed and screened out. The navigation conditions in different water levels or river discharges of the major river reaches that impedes navigation were obtained. Its navigation condition and impeding-navigation character were carried out detailed research. Shallow water effect, bank effect and ships' navigating draught were studied through the ship manoeuvring theory and inland river piloting technology. Using the multi- objective linear optimization techniques, optimization targets and models were established, optimization schemes were put forward, and control standard of ship's loading water depth in the Maanshan-Lu zhou typical section of the Yangtze River was concluded.Using the large-scale ship manoeuvring simulator simulation and the inland river piloting technology, the typical section of river ships recommendation deep-draft route was obtained.
