Nowadays, seismic isolation and energy dissipation are the most popular control technology in practical application. Many rules for isolated buildings and energy dissipation buildings were added to Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB 50011-2001), which transforms the vibration control technology from research area into practical civil engineering. Base-isolated structures with rubber-bearing have been applied widely owing to the safe, economical and stable performance.On the basis of comparative analysis about all sorts of the design and calculating methods, the two processes design method is provided in the paper for isolated buildings. The design method considers the code of our country published in 2002. During the planning stage, the design method can achieve fast estimation of isolation layer in accordance with the basic situation of construction project (the scale of plane, the number of layers, uses, etc.). The aim of estimation is to evaluate the feasibility of using seismic isolation technology, isolation effect and the project cost of seismic isolator and to provide basis for decision-making in the determination of the design plan. According to the requirements of relevant technology standards, the design and calculation of isolation layer is presented during the structure design period, which offers the precondition for the design of superstructure, foundation base and the selection of isolation device. With three engineering examples, this paper chiefly illustrates the specific application of this method, and carries out the comparison and analysis on results. The computation result shows the new method is simple and practical, and its concept is clear and easy for further expansion and applications. This method is advantageous to enhance design quality and reduce design period.Based on the 3D-BASIS-ME program, the comprehensive software for design and analysis of isolated structure is developed, and is designed based on Visual Basic language. The data-in is completed by using visible user interface. It can obtain directly the amount of data input required from the PKPM program, and can export the Excel worksheet of the analysis result. It may effectively save calculation time and reduce the workload greatly. It is beneficial for the extension and application of seismic isolation technique for building's base.In the end, the summary of the research of this task is written. On the basis of the summary of the research on it, the article indicates the existing shortcomings of the study, and gives several suggestions on the future research.
