The energy-dissipation braced frame structure,which forms by means of adding energy-dissipation brace in span of pillars, is a new kind of energy-dissipation structure developing in recent years. This kind of structure is not to adopt the traditional thinking of "strengthen" structure, but to dissipate a great deal of earthquake energy by the non-elastic distortion of the energy-dissipation brace system, reduce seismic response of structure greatly, consequently, ensure main structure safety in strong motion, so the energy-dissipation braced frame structure is a kind of structure that is safe and economic. This paper studied visco-elastic dampers.The level controlling force of the energy-dissipation brace was deduced. Parameters of the energy-dissipation brace were studied ,the relation between parameters and steel bar was obtained. The reasonable value of the steel bar was given. The formulas of adding damping ration of the structure was deduced in single-degree-freedom system and multiple-degree-freedom system. The paper studied the parameters of the brace how to affect the adding damping ration and structure deformation. The relation between adding damping ration and position of the energy-dissipation braces was studied.Two frame buildings, with viscoelastic dampers and no dampers respectively, were simulated using finite element software. The original structure without VEDS and the structure with VEDS were analyzed and compared on the condition that earthquake occurs. The analyzing results indicate that the responses of the structure were reduced remarkably after adding VEDS. This result testified the efficiency of the viscoelastic dampers.The paper discusses the optimization designs of the spatial arrangem -ent in steel frame. Two optimization analysis methods of structures with viscoelastic dampers (VED) were introduced. The control function of one method is inter-story maximum displacement, the control function of the other method is top floor maximum displacement. An optimal program is made. It is used to determine the optimal parameters and location of VE dampers in a steel frame structure. The two methods were analyzed, compared . The efficiency of the two methods are testified from many work conditions and some good suggestions are given.
