Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) is a universal device which is fit for mechanization and automatization of the current production process as well as improvement of mechanical performance. CVT has advantages of constant power, high efficiency and high reliability, and therefore is widely used in the field of machinery. Applying the Virtual Prototype technology to CVT products may speed up the research and design of CVT products, reduce the cost, and optimize product performance. Regarding to promote the CVT technical level and populate application, it has essential significance.The article makes Zero-Max CVT as the object of the study. On the basis of analyzing its structure, principle and transmission characteristic, a preliminary study on the realization methods and technology about the Virtual Prototype of Zero-Max CVT was done in the article. Firstly, build entitative models of parts of Zero-Max CVT by using Pro/ENGINEER, and used assembly function of the software to achieve virtual assembly and interference analysis. Secondly ,use software—Mechanism/Pro which links Pro/ ENGINEER and ADAMS to make assembly model to be mechanical systems and transfer to ADAMS model. Then built virtual prototype model with the function of ADAMS/View and made a dynamics simulation analysis. Finally, use function of optimization analysis to make optimization design by taking the acceleration of output link as objective function and looking upon the length components of every part to be design variables.Simulation results indicated that the method is correct and feasible. This paper not only makes useful exploration of new theories about CVT, but also supplies references for the optimization design of Zero-Max CVT.In the course of research, the author brings forward new ideas:1,Contact can be considered as a whole of force and constraint. 2,Movement orderliness of One-way clutch is complicated. There are some differences between theory and simulation result. It needs further study by making use of advanced ways and technologies.
