The automotive transmission which uses Continuously Variable Transmission would matchthe engine better in operating condition. It also enhances the fuel economy and dynamicperformance of a vehicle. Every innovation of CVT has played a crucial role in the improving ofthe performance of a vehicle. Today, the problem of resources and environment is increasinglyserious. So the study on improving CVT is very important. A new design conception ofSubdivision Variable Diameter Chain CVT is offered in this paper. By using the virtualprototyping technology, the dynamic performance of CVTis studied.This paper described the working principle of Subdivision Variable Diameter Chain CVT.And the stress characteristics of each component are analyzed. Then basic parameters of thevirtual prototype of Subdivision Variable Diameter Chain CVT are determined. Through CATIAsoftware, its three-dimensional model is established. Then the assembling analysis andinterference detecting ensure the accuracy of the model. This lays a certain technological basis ofSubdivisionVariable Diameter Chain CVT.Based on CATIA and ADAMS, with the theory of virtual prototype technology andimplementation process of function virtual prototype, using MSC.SimDesigner software, theSubdivision Variable Diameter Chain CVT model in the CATIAis imported into ADAMS. Thenappropriate joint constraint and contact force are added and the virtual prototype is established.Through script section simulation, the appropriate integrator is selected and reasonablesimulation parameters are set. And then add different motions in the input shaft. The speed of theoutput shaft, the torque of the input shaft, the axial force of the cone pulley is measured. So therelative mistakes between the measured and theoretical consequence can be analyzed. The resultverifies feasibilityand accuracyof SubdivisionVariable Diameter Chain CVT.The design proposal of Subdivision Variable Diameter Chain CVT in this paper cantransmit more torque and eliminate the offset problem of the belt-CVT, which breaks through thetraditional structure of CVT. Through the characteristics analysis of virtual prototype ofSubdivisionVariable Diameter Chain CVT, theoretical foundation of its production is laid.
