The wide application of nonlinear load leads to the fact the pollution of wave in harmony aggravates and the demand of reactive increase. Reactive compensation and harmonic suppression are not only important subjects touching upon electrical and electronic technology, power system, electrical automation, and theory of Electrical Engineering, etc, but also the focus Problems in recent year. The device of reactive compensation and harmonic suppression become one of the important device of the flexible alternative current transmission system.This paper research in harmonic and reactive power theory, summarized methods of reactive compensation and harmonic suppression, analyzed that the commonly used wave in harmony inhibits and has no operation principle of compensating device of work, analyzed the principle of reactive compensation and harmonic suppression device of work.. Simulate the operation principle of synchronous generator, bring forward a kind of new electromagnetic coupling exchanges theory, and design one novel static Var compensator device on the basis of this theory. This novel static Var compensator device adopt the structure of transformer. Through control original side fen of winding connect, direct current source of original side be reaction of symmetrical alternative current source of vice side. Novel static Var compensator device can suppress harmonic by itself. Thus reach the function that reactive compensated and harmonic suppressed.The paper carries on the test to the new operation characteristic of the novel static Var compensator device, include input characteristic, unloaded to output characteristic, non-linear output characteristic, pure resistance output characteristic, reactive compensation characteristic and harmonic suppression characteristic. The result of test analyzed prove that the actual feasibility of the new electromagnetic coupling exchanges theory and the applicability of the novel static Var compensator device.
